Sorry Vikings fans, you’re gonna have to ride it out with JJ McCarthy.
Take your lumps. Watch him air mail it past open dudes. Or throw it to the other team. Or suffer secondhand embarrassment when he refers to himself in the third-person after winning one huge road game.
That’s the deal.
After missing his whole rookie season, and missing much of this season with a high ankle sprain, now that he’s healthy, you just have to keep him plugged in and wait until the end of the season to make any wild assessments. That seems fair.
He might be horrible. But the blueprint was to go all in on him, and even though he’s had three lackluster games, and one heroic game (on the road vs.. the Lions), the data set is pretty small to make some huge proclamation now.
“I was an early adopter of the ‘JJ is a bust’ fans.” Okay. There’s only 7 more weeks of the season. We’ll remember your shrewd analysis later.
Who else is available to take over right now, anyway? The Vikings are 4-6. Pretty much cooked. Joshua Dobbs ain’t walking through that door. (click that for a post that is actually entertaining)
The Vikings seem massively reluctant to let rookie Max Brosmer take over, and they should be.
It’s easy to pile on Mc Carthy now. He’s making a lot of mistakes. It hurts to go from a 14-3 season, to this. But I can understand why they let go of Sam Darnold, who threw four interceptions for the Seahawks yesterday as they played the Rams (he lost against the Rams for the Vikes less than a year ago too). They needed to be able to sign more people. I don’t think the Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl this season. Who knows though?
Anyway, I can’t believe I am agreeing with Chris Simms.
Elsewhere, it appears that Josh Allen had a big game:
Through all of NFL history — including the playoffs — a quarterback has had three passing and three rushing touchdowns in a game only three times. Allen has now done it twice. Otto Graham (1954) is other.
Buffalo’s run defense is still a mess. The wide receiver drafted in 2024 to elevate this passing game blew off a Friday meeting — Strike 3 — and was promptly benched. Nor did Keon Coleman seem to care much about his demotion. Nobody at One Bills Drive knows for sure if he’ll grow up. The team’s No. 1 pass catcher (Dalton Kincaid) was out with a hamstring injury. The team’s workhorse back (James Cook) averaged only 3.0 yards per carry. Hell, the receiver Buffalo handed a four-year, $53 million this offseason (Shakir) finished with minus-3 yards on one catch. But none of it matters when Allen goes full psycho mode. There are more complete teams in the AFC: the Colts, Broncos, Patriots, even the Ravens. This game was a loud reminder that Allen is the rare quarterback who can serve as a human eraser to all problems on a roster.
I don’t know who the Bills are, man. They’ve lost three of their last six games. Last week was a SPANKING against the Dolphins. Their win yesterday came against a deeply injured, maybe fading Buccaneers team (losers of 3 of their last four) ???
Surprises:
Carolina Panthers are … good? (no, but improving) Fun to watch? Yes. This vid will disappear soon, Rico Dowdle TD against Falcons (edit: whoops my bad i think he stepped out sorry.)
And Tetairoa McMillan…
No surprises:
Packers vloggers are losing it.
See you later.
