Back after an unplanned break.
Many things happened.
Speaking of ME. That’s the theme of this post. Let’s catch up.
One event from the past few weeks that continues to stand out is Davante Adams’ post-game press conference after the Jets lost to the Steelers with Donald Trump in attendance.
This was Adams’ first game as a Jet.
Obviously his presence has not helped.
The Jets are bad. And the Jets are unhappy.
All New York football (minus the Bills) is bad. You couldn’t combine the 2024 Jets and 2024 Giants and get a better team. Giants fans have been looking backward this season. It’s their 100th anniversary. When nothing good lies ahead, it is comforting to maybe remember Mark Bavaro. Even if you are the team’s GM.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll were in attendance, as were current players Bobby Okereke and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Schoen and Daboll each have a great appreciation for the franchise's rich history.
"To be a part of the 100th season is really cool for me," Schoen said.
The G.M., an Indiana native, was eager to meet Bavaro.
"Bavaro played at Notre Dame and my dad used to take me to the spring games as a kid," Schoen said. "Somewhere in a box in the storage room there's a picture of me and Mark Bavaro and I have to find it."
I CAN HELP! LMK.
Anyway. Davante.
The three-time All-Pro insisted he didn't come to the Jets to be a savior, but acknowledged that all eyes were on them Sunday night — including Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in attendance.
"Everybody was looking, you know, the whole world," Adams said. "Trump was at the game. I don't know if that's because of me or not, but I mean, everybody's sitting there expecting it to be me going out there and put up 200 yards and three (touchdowns). That's a storybook ending to it and obviously that would have been amazing if that happened.
I don’t believe the whole world was looking at this game.
I definitely don’t believe Donald Trump came to the game to see how you’d do, Davante.
Adams has been bravely critical of Trump in the past.
In this instance though, Adams articulated the Jets inability to get out of their own way.
Just try to win the game, dude. If people are watching the Jets, it’s not because they feel like there’s a chance to be surprised by competence. Why do I feel sorry for Aaron Rodgers now?
The Me thing extends to the Jets fans. Another thing that happened:
Jets superfan Fireman Ed’s extended rant/conspiracy theory about being phased out of the MetLife game day experience. He was upset to not see his own mug on the Jets jumbotron any more. OMG. Give the man some attention! What is a Sunday without the antics of a 65 year-old man in a modified fire helmet, NOT employed by the team?
Whatever the price of a Jets ticket is now, I’d pay double to “remove Fireman Ed” from the experience.
The Jets will beat the Colts today.
